What has Dra. Engie Domondon Accomplished?
- As a community worker, Engie’s career outside the hospital and corporate world began in 1976 when the government engaged her services in its social development projects through the National Social Action Council (NASAC). It is a trisectoral organization composed of the church, the government and the private sector. Working under the Office of the President, Engie worked towards improving the lives of the poor and the disadvantaged in the rural areas in her capacity as a physician and health worker. Most of her experiences were on women empowerment.
- Her outstanding experience as a community worker was taking care of the rebel’s families at the evacuation centers at the height of the muslim insurgency in Mindanao.
- Left with only the mothers in the evacuation areas, she taught them how to be self-supporting and productive.
- The mothers were trained on primary healthcare and as auxiliary healthcare givers. They were taught simple livelihood projects such as food-making, arts and crafts making, herbal gardening and vending.
- On the home front, Engie helped the wives of the rebels in preserving home values through their educational programs. Health-wise, they assisted the women of the community in their feeding and nutritional programs.
- As an educator, Engie established a high school in Cagayan de Tawi-Tawi, working and training a faculty composed predominantly of female teachers.
- As a doctor, she went to Bangkok, Thailand in 1998 to study the field of Preventive Medicine through the natural healing process.
- Thereafter, she set up an institute for natural healing in Subic Legend Health and Medical Center. The facility used to be the US Naval Hospital.
- Engie set up a Foundation called the Crown Peak Foundation composed of nurses, nutritionists, dieticians, physical therapists, acupuncturists, massage therapists and people with related skills, to form the work force of the Institute for natural healing.
- Most of the workers of the foundation are women therapists who have decided to make a difference in their careers as healthcare givers.
- The healing ministry was motivated by the missionary zeal to serve the terminally ill patients and spread the good news on preventive health-care by way of radical modification of lifestyle and natural healing interventions.
- The workforce are trained and inspired by Engie who is a breast cancer survivor herself. Their interventions go beyond the physical as they pray, sing and communicate with the sick patients in an effort to bring them closer to the great divine healer himself.
- In the beginning, the workers voluntarily pooled their earnings together and divided them among themselves according to their credentials and work participation. The workers, the therapists and the doctors involved in the process of natural healing have become transformed people themselves as they begin to realize and recognize the power of the self and the power of faith.
- In 2002, the Subic Legend Health and Medical Center was sold to an American group and was called the Subic Bay Medical Center. It now functions as a tertiary hospital where Engie’s natural healing ministry and foundation had been integrated as a Department. It is now called the Subic Bay Wellness Center where Engie continues to serve as its Head.
- Statistics on the dreaded diseases referred to the Center for natural healing show a high incidence of women patients suffering from breast cancer to cancers and tumors of the reproductive organ. Worth mentioning is the success of Engie’s healing therapy for diabetic patients.
- In addition to her workd in Subic, Engie networks with NGO’s and other groups who believe in alternative medicine.
- She serves as a resource person and continues to be an inspiration to terminally ill patients.
- She has also affiliated with other alternative medical practitioners whose mission and beliefs are parallel to her natural healing philosophy.
- Engie’s present project is to bring her natural healing ministry to a greater number of people. The foundation has blueprinted a spa-like center for preventive health in Tagaytay City that will cater to people who would like to know more about the natural healing approaches and who would like to embrace a healthy and modified lifestyle.
